DIGESTIVE ALLERGIES

Allergic reactions to food-substances occur in individuals whose immune system over-reacts when in contact with specific allergens. Some are predisposed to these reactions such as those with coeliac, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia.
Symptoms:
– diarrhea
– abdominal pain
– gas
– bloating
– swelling of the lips/tongue
– difficulty swallowing
– asthma
– eczema
– vomitting
– heart burn
Many of our patients consult us about digestive disorders. We look at the body as a whole to find out what the underlying cause is. There may be a hereditary allergic tendency, but by analysing each individual case we can often treat associated imbalances and track down trigger foods which can, in most cases, eliminate symptoms.
Many individuals have poor diets, and possibly take large amounts of medication (especially large doses of antibiotics), and this often affects the natural balance of good bacteria (bacterial flora) which help with digestion. This in turn affects the acidity of the digestive tract and causes a poor environment for the body to function effectively. This all has to be looked at carefully, as there are times, for example, when antibiotics are essential. In these cases we try to support the patient with homeopathic remedies which can reduce the side effects from the medication.
The treatment we offer our patients varies from case to case, but it is aimed at optimising digestive function, restoring the right acid balance in the system, and providing specific lists of foodstuffs that need to be avoided. We use various combinations of homeopathic remedies and dietary advice.
